TF30063: You are not authorized to access Microsoft-IIS/7.5

One beautiful day build definitions startet to give such error:




Also getting latest on the folder with custom activities dlls gave the same error.
What a nonsense thought I, cause I am admin afterall!

Right, the problem was not enough disk space on TFS application tier machine.
Cleaning up resolved the problem.

The remote server was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers...

 And nobody can do anything, since remote desktop is not working.
There is a simple solution:

Run "mstsc /admin"

TFS 2010 + VS 2012 : CodeAnalysis problem

Recently we run into an interesting issue - suddenly our quality build stopped to perform code analysis, although build definition and build template were not changed.
After some investigation problem appeared to be in the solution file. Developers have started using VS 2012 (and customers build environment is TFS 2010), and as soon as they have done any change to the solution file and checked it in - the problem came.

Symptom: no code analysis files produced.
Reason: solution file information changes to VS 2012.

Here is the problem (from Detailed build log).

Solution:

We found a temporary work around - to set up solution information back to VS 2010 - in the solution file replace 2 first lines with :

Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 11.00

# Visual Studio 2010

That will give you your code analysis reports back.

Waiting for what MS will say. Will keep you posted.

TFS Work Item Query - multiselect hint

Lets say I have a WI query like this:



and I want to find not only Issues but also Tasks and Activities. I can of course add OR statement and group, but I find it much more easy to use IN statement. The problem is only that the value dropdown doesn't seem to support multiselect. Not in Visual Studio, neither in Team Web Access.

Forget dropdown! Just write staight into value field with ; as a separator. Like this:

Test Impact Analysis - how does it work for manual tests

We all heard about TIA, but surprisingly enough, just few use it, and even less understand how it works. Some googling and asking gave me a bit of understanding which I would happily share with those who are interested.

Altough this post is outdated, since
TIA is not avaliable any more on VS from 2012 version, but it is still there for your builds.


The point of my post is that all of those articles out there are explaining how TIA finds impacted unit tests, and none - how it finds impacted manual tests.

Well, it is almost the same. When the test is executed (successfully) baseline is created, which of course requires action recording. When a new build is assigned, it is also IL comparison for the path where manual test was going.

So - there is no connection with work items, associated checkins etc. All you need to start with TIA in Microsoft Test Manager is a successfull test recording (baseline) and test cases. And builds of course, but I assume we all are agile enought for that already? :)
